The Leibniz Institute for Financial Research SAFE - Sustainable Architecture for Finance in Europe - (www.safe-frankfurt.de) promotes scientific research, transfer work to the public and independent policy advice on all aspects relating to the structure and functioning of the financial system. It aims to contribute to strengthening a sustainable and resilient financial system that drives innovation and serves the needs of the economy and citizens. Researchers from the fields of economics, law, and political science collaborate at SAFE.
The student assistant will be involved in SAFE’s research project using historical financial and stock market data of German firms starting in the 19th century. More specifically, the student assistant will contribute to building a unique firm-level financial database from historical sources (e.g., Handbuch der Deutschen Aktiengesellschaften, Kursblatt der Berliner Börsen-Zeitung). The project is part of the “Financial and corporate research from a long-term perspective” project funded by the Academy of Sciences and Literature in the Academies' Programme. The student assistant will support the project team in the data collection, cleaning, and validation process.
On this job, the student assistant will deepen his/her knowledge of data management. He/she may also acquire or improve his/her programming skills. Moreover, the student assistant will gain insights into empirical research in economics and finance.

The position is for 12 months from April 2025, on average 40 hours per month – the temporal distribution of working hours is negotiable.
